Wheels vs. Wheels / fuel consumption

I did a little experiment to see what the difference in fuel consumption is using the original and pimp wheels.

7.17ltr/100Km - 195/40/17 Team Dynamics Jet black Hankook Summer tyres.
5.38ltr/100Km - 155/65/14 Original steal wheels Nokian Winter tyres.

As you can see, the difference is noticeable in the amount of road you can cover on one tank and how full your wallet will be when you reach the end of your trip.

I did not change my driving style and I think there is more room for improvement in tyres (summer tyres), standard ECU, manifold, exhaust and a more tree loving right foot. First and last one might be key.

Chris Ingram Rally C1

Engine:
No modifications to the engine because it is not allowed in the championship regulations, however, when Chris is getting 17 he will be allowed to put a 1.4 litre engine into the C1 for a lot more power.

Exhaust:
Custom made exhaust for the car, it is thick to prevent stones chipping the exhaust.

Airfilter:
K&N air filter which will help get a few more BHP out of the car.

Wheels:
MINILITE wheels 13" Motorsport Wheels ML1360 16x13", they are very strong and relatively lightweight. Falken tyres as they sponsor the junior rally championship

Suspension:

Toyota recall - accelerator pedal issues

Toyota says it is recalling up to 1.8 million cars across Europe, including about 220,000 in the UK, following an accelerator problem.

There is a possibility that certain accelerator pedal mechanisms may, in rare instances, mechanically stick in a partially depressed position or return slowly to the idle position.

This is caused because the accelerator pedal mechanisms concerned may become worn. This progressive wear, combined with certain operating and environmental conditions, can cause friction in the mechanism to increase and intermittently result in the accelerator pedal being harder to depress, slow to return or, in the worst case, stick in a partially open position.

In case of occurrence, the driver may notice that the accelerator pedal is progressively harder to depress or is slower to return. A rough or chattered feeling may also be experienced when depressing/releasing the accelerator pedal.

The eight models recalled are the AYGO, iQ, Yaris, Auris, Corolla, Verso, Avensis and RAV4 and cover manufacturing dates going back to February 2005.

The Peugeot 107 and the Citroen C1 are also effected.

My order has arrived at De Snelle Leeuw. All new C1Cup Manifold and exhaust.

I am testing this version, De Snelle Leeuw will have the whole kit available soon.

UPDATE
Kit is installed. Looks good, nice quality, fits pretty good (except the holes on the manifold need to be adjusted a little). You don't have to take your front bumper of to install.

My initial thoughts.
Rear silencer is really quiet. It's sounds nice and sporty but very social.

Performance, it feels like I have move power over the whole rev range, you can feel it when you drive. 2500 rpm to drive 100Km/h. I am on a Dyno next week to get some real performance numbers. Stay tuned!!

- Yesterday my engine light went on, I had it checked and it looks like this sports Cat is on the limit of what the Computer allows. So no problem just a Cat sensor.
I am checking if the chip people can fix this in the computer.

UPDATE 3

Did a dyno run today.
Here are the results
80.6BHP @ 5665RPM - 119Nm @ 2942RPM that about 5-6HP increase.

A bit weird as the dyno run after chiptuning (few months ago) is much higher.
But today's data look much more realistic.

UPDATE 5

We've fixed the Cat. I've been in contact with the fabricator in Italy through a contact from C1 Aygo 107 Club Italy, we've moved the sensor to the back of the Cat and it seems to be working. A bit stupit that it was something as simple as that. I made a trip of 310Km today and the engine light did not switch on.

UPDATE 6 Final production model arrived for one final test.

Wiechers Alu front bottom strut brace

Received my Aluminium Wiechers bottom strut brace (front bottom €52).
Easy to mount it yourself, just make sure there is not tension on the front wheels.

My car has 30mm lowering springs, I have about 10cm ground clearance left. Be careful with those in the middle of the road speed bumps.

Folding Remote key

I bought this folding key from Ebay. Ebay search: Folding Remote KEY

You have to transfer your original Peugeot key, transmitter and the button electronics to the new housing.

Remove the screw, and pull the key out of the body.

Open the body. Top left corner (left body) is the transmitter chip. Whitout that in the key body your car won't start. Right side is the body with the print board that holds the battery and the "open" and "lock" buttons.
Take a really small screwdriver to take the print bord out. Now we are going to transfer all the items to the new housing.

Here all the elements you should have. Transmitter chip top left.

The new housing. Be careful when you open the top, there is a spring under the metal key housing.

Put the transmitter chip in the upper left corner, there is a little place which is perfect for it.
Put the metal buttons + white rubber in the housing and put the print board on top.

Now put the metal key housing with the spring back in the correct place, make sure you put some tension on the spring by turning it a clock wise. put the top of the housing back on.

Put the bottom plate back on and secure it with the two screws.

Now we are going to adjust your original key to make it fit into the new housing.
Take a thin screwdriver to remove the pin that secures the generic key.

Here are the generic key and the Peugeot key. You can see that the top is a bit different. Use a metal file to make the Peugeot key as thin and wide as the generic key. BE CAREFUL!!!! do this at your own risk.

The Peugeot key is now as thing and wide as the generic key.

Use a metal saw to make the line where the locking pin secures the key.

Key is ready to be mounted into the new housing. Put the key into the metal housing and put the pin back in.

Final result.

Key folded back in.

Test it first.

Then put the Peugeot sticker on the housing.

Don't forget to bring your spare key in case you screw it up :-)

Customizing your original car key is dangerous, be very careful, do it at your own risk.
A replacement key is expensive.

Some my107 TLC - UPDATE "5 hour Finishing touch"

I received some tips from a forum member how to get a really really nice shine on the car. I visited him yesterday and he showed me a few steps how to clean my car like a pro. Again thanks so much Jan for your help and the warm welcome, lunch, drinks and car cleaning tips.

Everyone has his own way's to clean cars, this is mine, it works for me so please if you leave a comment please leave one that's helpful. Good tips are always welcome.

After all the scratches where taken out with a polishing machine last week (see bottom of this post) I got a good base to really get a shine on the car.

The Car was clean, but in case yours isn't, clean your car with water and a car shampoo. I use this one from Autoglym.

Get the car dry, I use this microfiber towel.

Next step is to get all the dirt out of the paint. You use clay and a detailer fluid.

You take a little piece of clay and rub it over the body, after you have sprayed some detailer over it. do it section by section so you won't miss any spots.

You can use this for any tar, insects or tree spots that are not removed by the clay.

For any spots that are still left you can use very a light polish. This should do the job.

Next step: Wax

I used this wax from Smart, it's 60 euros and it smells like Coconut :-)

You can use a pad to apply the wax on the car but I think it's best to do it by hand.

I used these small microfiber towels to polish all the wax into the paint.

For all the plastic parts I used this gel. Makes it look all new.

Now the body is all done, don't forget the tires and rims.
I used Rim wax to make the rims look like new.

For the tires you can use this dressing. It puts a nice wet shine effect on the tires.

Here is the result. I must say, I only knew the basics of car cleaning. But after 5 hours of hard work I didn't know that you can get such a incredible result. The paint is sooooo soft it's incredible. The Black is sooooo deep, sooo nice :-)

Last weeks polishing. Getting all the scratches out.

New Airfilter kit

I've been thinking to change my K&N 57i kit to a closed airbox kit to get colder air to the engine.
The K&N kit is nice but sucking warm air on top of the engine isn't very optimal.

This kit takes the air straight from the radiator opening in the front bumper. It transports the cold air straight to the engine trough an carbon airbox from Pipercross.

The airbox used is from Pipercross and is called Viper. We added a few parts to make it fit on the 107.

The pipes are nicely mounted on the engine and unable to move or rub against anything.

his is the testsetup, we are going to make it a bit nicer with nice pipes and braces so it doesn't look like a home made kit.

Battle Of The Small event.

Allot cars went to the BOTS event. Small cars only, was lot's to see.
We had about 20 Cars there.

We all gathered on a parking so we could drive as one big long line of cars to the event

The organisation gave us a nice place to park in one line, it wasn't that busy when we arrived but in the end I think there where around 400 cars at the event. From 106, Polo's, Mini's, 206, Fiat's, Seat's.................

I've been driving with them now for 250Km and I must say they are much more comfortable. Car sticks to the ground much better, it's not so hard anymore.
Is it worth the money (900 euro including labour)? I am not sure. It's allot of money.

New Angel Eyes lights

I visited De Snelle Leeuw last week for some fittings and they showed me these new angel eyes headlights for the Peugeot 107 they just received them. We decided to put them on my car :-).

I have been driving with them for a week and they are pretty cool, good quality and the lights are good. I had to put a new Pilot Xenon kit on them as these headlights are H1 and not H4.

You have the two angel eyes, then a little LED (in front of the angel eyes, see little hole) Then Hi beam and Low bean and the direction indicator.

New side indicators

Got new side indicators in black smoke

Yellow W5W lights are included

This is the original side indicator and you can see, the fitting is attached to the light.

You are going to need a extra fitting to make them fit. I got one from a Peugeot 206 or 306. De Snelle Leeuw has them.

If you push the indicator to the side and pull towards you the indicator comes out.

Disconnect the indicator

Click the new one back on.

Push it back in. First one side then the other.

Done

Great service at Bull Power. They don't just upload a new tuned Citybug chip setup in the computer they Dyno every car first then use those specs as a base for a new setup. When that's done they Dyno your car again. This way you can really see what the changes are and you don't get a generic Citybug Chiptuned Graph like others do. The whole operation takes about 2 hours.

Just been driving for a bit and first reaction is that the car has a bit more power, you need less revs then before to drive a certain speed. It drives a bit more comfortable. You will notice it but don't expect miracles. Let me drive for a few more days to give you a better impression. Will update this post soon.

K&N 57i intake kit for the Citybug

I've been driving with this K&N kit for a few months now and it's pretty good but not any different as all the other handmade solutions I have seen and used. Sound and just a bit more power in mid revs is pretty much the same as the other kits.
I am using Partnr: 57-0669 K&N 57i Kit: 1.0L without ESP, 63mm throttle housing
Dyno results next week.

Add 3 or 4 mm extra spacers under the saddle bracket as the filter is very close to the engine.This will give is a bit more room.
